Types
of CD drives that accept mini-CDs
Mini-CDs play in both standard tray type (look at your computer's CD drive,
there's an inner circle that the CD lies in) or spindle type CD drives - the
ones that have the post in the center, usually found on laptop PCs.
Size
doesn't matter
It doesn't have to be big and it doesn't have to be round. It just has to be
balanced. For this reason you can choose from a variety of Mini-CD shapes or
develop a custom shaped CD-ROM. But just because it is smaller doesn't mean
the amount of content is limited. The largest mini-CD holds up to 160
megabytes of information (50 megabytes is approximately equivalent to about 5
minutes of video, an 8-minute slide presentation, 10,000 pages of text and
2,000 web pages with pictures).
Uniquely
packaged
Since they are so little, packaging solutions are abundant. The most popular
format is a small brochure (with die-cut slits to hold the CD) that fits in a
#10 envelope. Single cards or one-flap holders can be developed and plastic
sleeves are also available.
Beating
your competition
A potential
customer is trying to decide on spending money with either you or your biggest
competitor. They ask for information on your company. You send them a brochure
and an insert for the product they are interested in. Your competitor sends
them a brochure with a mini-CD embedded
inside. The CD links them to the specific product on the website where there
is an option to purchase.
You may have just lost the business to your biggest competitor. A CD-ROM application is a great way to gain an advantage over your competition.
The
cost of mini-CDs
Pricing for
mini-CDs is structured in the same way as print. The more you replicate, the
less the cost per CD is going to be. We recommend a minimum purchase of 1000
CDs to be cost effective. When you order this amount (cost varies on shape and
face artwork) pricing falls anywhere between $1.30 to $2.00 per CD.
